I want to share something with you I rarely talk about.

When I was six years old, I was in a fire with my little sister.

I survived. She did not.

The reason? She was hiding and the firefighters couldn’t find her in time to pull her to safety.

As you can imagine, this was one of the defining moments of my life. I’ve spent years working to heal this as well as move through “survivor’s guilt.”

Why was I the one who was saved? Why didn’t I do more to protect her? Why me and not her?

But, I’ve come to realize the gift in this and the true message my sister was telling me.

She died because she hid. And, her message is you don’t have to hide.

You can stand out, be seen and get your message out into the world.

In fact, that’s what you’re SUPPOSED to do. If you have a big message, you have an obligation to get it out into the world in a big way.
